Written as I came in for a landing in beautiful Norfolk, VA - I suddenly saw that I was landing on a map!
Where the water flows, people will stay
for without water, there is no way
Where the trees grow tall, leave them alone
The roots are deep, it's their home
Looking at a big colorful bumpy map
A paint-by-numbers like you never seen
Out my window is brown, blue and green
It's a big bright colorful map!
Some roads are straight, made by decree
Other roads follow the hills and sea
Where the sea meets the shore, land continues below
I could show those boats where to go!

That plump white cloud makes a shadow beneath
But our plane's shadow so quickly leaves
There's a long thin bridge with a necklace of cars --
The next approach will be ours!
